Email Marketing Statistics
Statistics made available for your email marketing campaigns
Our system provides excellent statistical reporting that clearly demonstrates the results of your email marketing campaigns by Newsletter Advantage. This makes it very easy to see the direct and immediate response as opposed many other types of marketing such as print or signage.
System Statistics PLUS Google Analytics
Our system offers excellent statistical feedback on your newsletter campaigns however we can also tag the links in your newsletters so they report to your Google Analytics account too.
If you are using Google Analytics on your website then we strongly recommend tagging links in your newsletters (don't worry if you aren't sure what this means, we take care if this for you of course). This allows you to set-up filters in their system to report on the effectiveness of your email newsletter campaigns. This is especially useful in determining which links in your newsletter were clicked - ideal for optimising your next newsletter!
Key Email Marketing Statistics
The statistics you should pay particular attention to are:
- Opens
This simply refers to the number of people that have opened your newsletter. This figure can be lower than the actual open rate since some people won't allow images to display, stopping our ability to detect if the newsletter was opened. - Bounces
A 'bounce' occurs when and email is sent to a subscriber however it is not received by the person you are sending it to. - Unsubscribes
While you will probably always have a few 'unsubscribes' after an email campaign, a large number may indicate deeper problems.
Low Email Open Rates
If your campaign statistics indicate that many of the subscribers did not open the newsletter it could mean that your subject line was not enticing enough to encourage them to read your email.
A good subject line can dramatically boost interest in your newsletter since most people scan subject lines amongst a long list of email they have received on a given day.
Also, people who receive the newsletter in text format won't appear on your 'open' statistics.
Email Newsletter 'Bounces'
The most common reasons for getting bounces are:
- A number of your subscriber's email addresses no longer exist.
- The receiving email server was down when your newsletter was sent.
- Your newsletter may be getting marked as SPAM.
We check your email newsletters before being sent to reduce any such problems however it is impossible to completely eliminate any chance of bounces occuring. Newsletter Advantage will also review your statistics to check for anomalies in your Bounce rate.
Unsubscribe Rates
Don't be too disappointed when some of your subscribers decide to unsubscribe. People have differing motives for registering to receive your newsletter, as with their reasons for unsubscribing.
If however the number of people unsubscribing is high proportional to the number of people on your list, deeper investigation is required.
Your email newsletter content should be assessed. Did it target your subscribers or was it too off topic? Was it in any way offensive or negative? Have you sent a similar newsletter in the past?
